Politicians, scholars and economists from Moslem countries began an importance conference in London on Monday (4 July). It's the first Moslem conference of its kind to be held in Europe.
SYNOPSIS: The conference is being held at London's Commonwealth, Institute. At the opening session, the Secretary General of the Islamic Council of Europe, Mr. Salem Azzam, gave welcoming speech in English. The conference brings together politicians, scholars and economists to discuss the way the Moslem community can influence world economic development. Mr. Azzam outlined his councils's aims.
An address followed by Sheikh Abdul Haleam Mahmoud of Egypt. A former member of the Egyptian Cabinet, the Shiekh is now Rector of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, and one of his country's most distinguished experts of Islamic affairs. The organisers of the conference say it will undertake an objective review of the present economic policies, plans and institution in the Moslem countries.
