Background: Called the man of the Barraka, Yacof Saadi, and his mistress Zarah Drif, have just been arrested in the Casbah, Algeria.
It is at No. 3 rue Caton, in the centre of the Casbah, where the Paras were informed that the important Algerian rebel chief was in hiding, and for whom they had been searching unsuccessfully for several weeks.
The house cordoned off, after more than two hours arguing and parleying in order to avoid bloodshed in the centre of the town, Yacof Saadi ended up by surrendering, on condition that he would not be parted from his mistress and two young domestics.
The arrest of the rebel chief is also important for Algeria's prestige, because as a result the rebel chiefs Kubylos Krim Andelkacem and Cuamrane are now in hiding in Tunis.
Yacof Saadi was subjected to intensive and prolonged interrogation. As a result of the information he gave, many more arrests were anticipated.
