    Preparations for the elections to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Soviet
    On the tenth of April in Moscow the first meeting was held of the Central Electoral Committee for the elections to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Soviet which will take place on June 16th.

    Academican Pyotr Fedoseyev, chairman of the electroal committee spoke at the meeting.

    Academician Fedoseyev stressed that events of historic importance have taken place during the last four years. The 24th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party was held which adopted a clear-cut programme for the further advancement of Soviet society. The peoples of the Land of the Soviets marked the fiftieth birthday of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The international position of the Soviet Union has become stronger. The "cold war" has been replaced by detente and the recognition of the principle of peaceful co-existence.

    The academician noted that elections in the Soviet Union are in the hands of all the people. They are important political events.

    The electoral committee discussed how the preparations for the electiona were being carried out. It established voting protocol forms and stamps and voting bulletin??? standards.

    Central and local newspapers are widely reporting the meeting of the Central Electoral Committee, the speech of Academician Pyotr Fedoseyev, and those of the deputy chairman Valentina Nikolayeva--Tereshkova and the Secretary of the U.S.S.R. Presidium of the Supreme Soviet Mikhail Georgadze. The forms for the election bulletins are also published.
