    TWELVE FRENCH-SPEAKING WEST AFRICAN STATES HAVE SET UP A TOURIST BOARD TO CO-ORDINATE THEIR EFFORTS. THE NEW BODY, THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN WEST AFRICA (HOTAFRIC) (12 AND 13 MARCH) OF TOURIST CHIEFS FROM MEMBER COUNTRIES OF AIR AFRIQUE, WHICH IS BACKING THE SCHEME.

    THE CONFERENCE, HELD AT THE IVOIRE HOTEL, WAS ATTENDED BY REPRESENTATIVES FROM CAMEROUN, IVORY COAST, DAHOMEY, GADON, NIGER, THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, TOGO, MAURITANIA, UPPER VOLTA, SENEGAL AND MAURITANIA COMMON ORGANISATION (OCAM) AND THE OFFICE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN AFRICA.

    THE MEETING WAS RESTED BY THE IVORY COAST MINISTER OF TOURISM, M. LODA DIOMANDE, WHO SAT NEXT TO THE MAIN SPONSOR OF HOTAFRIC, M. CHEIK FAL OF SENEGAL. M. FAL LATER TOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE THAT OTHER WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES WOULD BE ABLE TO JOIN THE NEW ORGANISATION.

    ITS FIRST MEETING WILL BE HELD SHORTLY.
