    An enthusiastic audience of more than a thousand attended the finals of the women's world professional bodybuilding championships in Canada, on May 6.Oiled, tanned and sinewy, the 18 female contestants drew repeated applause as they flexed their muscles before a panel of judges at the Skyline Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.Lori Bowen-Rice, a 25-year-old resident of Dallas, took the International Federation of Bodybuilders' (IFBB) title, dethroning two-time champion Carla Dunlap, 29, of Neward, New Jersey.Bowen-Rice, who already held the 1983 American Women's amateur, and U.S.amateur titles, collected 7,000 U.S.dollars for her victory.Dunlap finished second, winning 3,000 dollars.Carla Temple, 25, of Vancouver, 1983 Canadian amateur middleweight champion, was the top Canadian at the event, finishing fifth.The evening was not a total disappointment for Dunlap.She and her partner Tony Pearson successfully defended their mixed pairs' title.It was the first time the event was held in Canada.The IFBB includes 122 member countries, and competitors this year came from Canada, the U.S., the Netherlands, France and Finland.According to IFBB President Ben Weider the aim of the sport, which is recognised by the International Olympic Committee, is to promote feminine aesthetics.
