  • Description

An experimental turbo train crashed on a trial run near Montreal, Canada, on Friday (20th July) injuring eleven people - none of them seriously.

The train, which was on its last trial run, hit a freight train which was apparently trying to turn around in the railway yard at Lachine, (a suburb of Montreal).

The turbo train was forced off the rails and burst into flames. The engine and three of the five cars were destroyed.

The heads of several US railway companies and two officials of the U.S. Federal Rail Safety Beard were on beard when the crash occurred. The turbo train was to be delivered to the United States Amrak Rail service next week. It was developed by the United aircraft (UA), a public American railway company.

A spokesman for UA later estimated the damage at two million dollars: (GBP 800,000 pounds sterling) about the cost price.
