  • Description

A plastic-type bomb exploded in the Paris Stock Exchange (the "Bourse") on April 4th, injuring 22 people and causing extensive damage.

The outrage was attributed to extremists (the "ultras") opposed to President de Gaulle's Algerian policy. An extremist group announced recently - that April 4th would mark the beginning of "le Festival Parisien du Plastique".The bomb went off in a washroom, shattering a thick wall, a ceiling, doors and windows.

Stockbrokers and clerical staff were injured by flying glass. Five were detained in hospital, and one man was gravely injured.

it was the biggest of some 15 similar explosions which have shaken Paris since January. The bomb was similar to the one which killed the Mayor of Evian, France, M. Camille Blanc, last week.

Government talks at Evian with Algerian nationalist (F.L.N.) leaders on April 7th have been postponed. The U.S. Government, acting as intermediary, is trying to prevent a complete breakdown in the peace-talk plans.
