    PRESIDENT JOHNSON HAS BEEN SPENDING THE PAST WEEK MAKING HIMSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE SENIOR CIVIC AND MILITARY LEADERS OF HIS COUNTRY, AS WELL AS MEETING SOME OF THE DIPLOMATS REPRESENTING OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE UNITED STATES.

    AMONG THE ARRIVALS AT THE PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE ON FRIDAY WERE THREE OF JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF, GENERAL WHEELER, ADMIRAL MCDONALD, THE AIR FORCE'S GENERAL CURTIS LEMAY, AND THEIR CHAIRMAN, GENERAL MAXWELL TAYLOR. PRESIDENT JOHNSON EMPHASIZED TO THESE MILITARY ADVISERS HIS DETERMINATION TO GET A DOLLAR'S VALUE FOR EACH MILITARY DOLLAR SPENT.

    THEN, AT ANOTHER MEETING, THE PRESIDENT SAW MR. ROY WILKINS, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLOURED PEOPLE. AFTERWARDS, MR. WILKINS SAID THAT HE HAD "VERY GREAT FAITH IN THE NEW PRESIDENT'S ATTITUDE ON CIVIL RIGHTS."
    FOREIGN GUESTS THEN WERE GIVEN SOME OF THE PRESIDENT'S TIME: PAKISTAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER, ZULFIQAR BHUTTO, SPENT A SHORT PERIOD IN THE FAMOUS STUDY. HE WAS FOLLOWED BY INDONESIA'S MINISTER OF DEFENCE, GENERAL ABDUL NASUTION, AND A COLLEAGUE FOREIGN MINISTER DR. SUDJARWE.
