    A SEVEN WEEK OLD BABY WAS KILLED BY AN EXPLOSION THIS MORNING (SUNDAY) AT A HOUSE IN HARLESDEN, NORTH LONDON. TWELVE OTHER OCCUPANTS WERE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER THE HOUSE COLLAPSED AND THEN CAUGHT FIRE.

    TEAMS OF FIREMEN FOUGHT THEIR WAY INTO THE BLAZING WRECKAGE AND HELPED TO RESCUE PEOPLE. IT WAS THEN THEY FOUND THE BABY'S BODY TRAPPED IN THE RUBBLE. THE HOUSE WAS OCCUPIED BY A FAMILY OF WEST INDIANS.

    "THERE WAS A TERRIFIC EXPLOSION," SAID A LOCAL SHOPKEEPER. "THE HOUSE COLLAPSED LIKE A PACK OF CARDS AND WINDOWS OF NEARBY SHOPS WERE BLOWN OUT."
    A WEST INDIAN WOMAN OCCUPANT OF THE HOUSE SAID "THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS, AND AS I WAS GETTING MY CLOTHES ON THE EXPLOSION CAME. I STRUGGLED DOWN TO THE STREET THROUGH SMOKE AND FLAME."
