Today, 14th January, at approximately 8 a.m. (gmt), one of the dykes northward of Amsterdam bursted and through a hole of about 150 ft water came into the "Polder 8", which is next to the village Tuindorp-Oostzaan, the very northern part of Amsterdam.
The water comes from of the side-canals "Canal H" of the North-Sea Kanaal, which is the connection between Amsterdam and IJmuiden, on the North Sea.(Temp. - 10???? !)
Within one hour the water rose to 3 ft, and now, about 6 hours after the dyke bursted, the water has risen to about 5 ft. 400 Families have to be evacuated. The Navy, Army, Fire-Brigade, Red Cross, etc. they all went to the place of the disaster and in small rowing boats the people are taken out of their houses, some of them carrying cats and dogs, and other "life-possessions".
