Background: The funeral took place in Elisabethville, Congo Republic. May 26, of Salomon Tshizand, Minister of Economic Affairs for Katanga Province. He died from a heart attack while on an official economics mission to Brazzaville.
Numerous Government Ministers as well as members of his family attended the service at the Methodist Church in the Katanga capital. The hearse arrived followed by a jeep loaded with flowers.
Internal Affairs Minister Munongo pronounced the funeral oration at the grave... and Tshizand's widow (dressed in a white hat and black dress) wept.
Tshizand was born in 1913. He was deeply religious, having attended a church school. At the time of his death, he was also pastor at the Methodist Mission at Jadotville. In addition to French and English, he spoke ten Bantu languages.
