  • Description

SENIOR TREASURY OFFICIALS FROM TEN LEADING NON-COMMUNIST COUNTRIES MET IN PARIS TODAY (WEDNESDAY) BUT FAILED TO FIND COMMON AGREEMENT ON WAYS TO INCREASE WORLD LIQUIDITY. IN PARTICULAR THEY DISCUSSED THE SPECIAL DRAWING RIGHTS SCHEME WHICH AIMS AT INCREASING WORLD LIQUIDITY AND WIDENING THE PAYMENTS AND CREDIT BASE FOR EXPANDING WORLD TRADE.

THE MAIN ARGUMENT OVER SPECIAL DRAWING RIGHTS IS OVER HOW BIG THE NEW FUNDS SHOULD BE, WITH THE AMERICANS SEEKING A BIGGER AMOUNT THAN THE EUROPEANS.

CONFERENCE SOURCES SAID TODAY'S (WEDNESDAY) MEETING ALSO FAILED TO AGREE ON GLOBAL AND SELECTIVE REVISIONS OF INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND QUOTAS FOR THE FIVE YEARS FROM 1970.

MEMBERS OF THE GROUP OF TEN ARE TO CONTINUE TALKS ON THE SUBJECT IN THE TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND TO BE HELD IN WASHINGTON LATE IN SEPTEMBER.
