  • Description

Heavy traffic built up at border points all along the French-Belgian frontier on Thursday as French customs officials went on a 24-hour strike for better pay and working conditions.

The strike was scheduled to end on Friday (29 May) but the customs men then resumed a go-slow started earlier this week.

No checks were made at Paris' Orly and Le Bourget airports or at Nice airport. At Marseilles, a shipload of Israeli passengers walked unchecked past the only customs officer on duty.
