    Fifty thousand student demonstrators marched through the streets of Utrecht on Saturday (6 January) in protest against the continued American involvement in Vietnam.

    Organised by most of the major Dutch political parties, the demonstration also had the support of Trade Unions and the Dutch Council of Churches.

    The student banners dramatically expressed the theme of the demonstration which was "Vietnam for the Vietnamese".

    The procession went on to a conference hall to listen to various speakers. Many Dutch members of Parliament were also present.

    SYNOPSIS: Carrying banners high, a procession of fifty thousand student demonstrators marched through the streets of Utrecht on Saturday (6 January). It was the young peoples way of protesting against American involvement in Vietnam, and they had the weight of the Dutch Establishment behind them.

    Organised by most of the major Dutch political parties, the demonstration also had the support of Trade Unions and the Dutch Council of Churches.

    Vietnam for the Vietnamese, the theme of the demonstration, was dramatically expressed on the student banners. The procession went on to a conference hall where many dutch Parliamentarians took the platform to condemn America's Vietnam policy.
