    SWEDISH TROOPS WITH ARMS AND EQUIPMENT BOARDED AN AMERICAN GLOBEMASTER TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT AT STOCKHOLM'S ARLANDA AIRPORT, DEC 2, TO REINFORCE UNITED NATIONS UNITS IN KATANGA. A TOTAL OF 600 SOLDIERS LEFT STOCKHOLM IN FOUR GLOBEMASTERS DURING DEC 2/3.

    THE SWEDISH DEFENCE STAFF IN STOCKHOLM ANNOUNCED DEC 3 THAT EIGHT SWEDISH SOLDIERS, INCLUDING FOUR OFFICERS, WERE AMONG ELEVEN UNITED NATIONS MEN MISSING AFTER INCIDENTS IN ELIZABETHVILLE, CAPITAL OF KATANGA, DEC 2. ALL CIVILIAN STAFF WERE MOVED TO U.N. MILITARY CAMPS FOR PROTECTION.

    ALSO MISSING WERE AN ITALIAN RED CROSS DRIVER, TWO NORWEGIAN CIVILIAN ADMINISTRATORS, AND AN ARGENTINEAN PILOT. EARLY THAT MORNING FOUR SWEDES WERE SEEN BEING MARCHED ALONG A ROAD AT THE POINT OF RIFLES. THEIR HANDS WERE ABOVE THEIR HEADS AND THEY WERE ESCORTED BY KATANGA 'COMMANDOS'. MEANWHILE, PLANES AND HELICOPTERS WERE SEARCHING FOR A SWEDISH C-46 TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT BELIEVED TO HAVE CRASHED IN THE BUSH IN NORTH KASAI PROVINCE, DEC 1, WITH FOUR PEOPLE ON BOARD.

    ON DECEMBER, MR. U THANT, UN SECRETARY-GENERAL, AUTHORISED UNITED NATIONS TROOPS IN KATANGA TO TAKE MILITARY ACTION IF NECESSARY TO MAKE THE AUTHORITIES IN ELIZABETHVILLE NEED A UN DEMAND THAT KATANGA TROOPS BE CONFINED TO BARRACKS.
