Background: A visiting economic mission from The People's Republic of China signed two agreements with Nigeria on economic and technical cooperation and trade in Lagos on Friday (3 November). The ten-man delegation, led by the Minister for Economic Relations, Fang Yi, arrived in Lagos on Thursday for a ten-day visit.

The trade agreements, signed by Nigeria's Commissioner for Trades and Industries, Wenike Briggs, and Mr. Fang Yi, were negotiated in Peking last August. China and Nigeria established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level early last year.

Following the signing ceremony, on Friday, the Chinese delegation was received by Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, at his residence.
