Background: In just about an hour, President Eisenhower will say goodbye to Arizona and head eastward. It was a short holiday, but a sweet one.
The trip into western sun began this morning when the president and first lady left Thomasville, Georgia. They had been house guests of former Treasury Secretary Humphrey for the past ten days. The Eisenhowers drove to Spence Air Force Base, about 35 miles away. Their Georgia vacation was a relaxing one, but t the weather crossed the president up from beginning to almost the end. Only during the latter days did he manage to get to the business of quail hunting. And so, it was a fond farewell to old friends today, but a glad goodbye to frosty weather. The Eisenhowers went aboard the presidential plane, Columbia the Third, and flew to Phoenix Arizona. The first lady plans to spend two weeks at a plush resort. But the president is returning to Washington within the hour, due back sometime tomorrow morning.
