    On oct. 19 a national rally of Soviet students opened in Moscow in the Grand Kremlin Palace.

    ...The representatives of the many millions of Soviet students were addressed by the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist party Leonid Brezhev.

    ...He stressed that the young people now studying in the secondary technical educational establishments, in the institutes and universities are destines to make their contribution toward fulfilling the decisions of the 24th congress of the Soviet Communist Party which counts on the youth to carry on the drive for scientific, technical and social progress.

    ...The Soviet students, the speaker stresses, are bone and flesh of the workers, farmers and Soviet intellectuals.

    ...Leonid Brezhnev informed the rally that the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party and the Soviet government had adopted a decision providing for a considerable improvement of the material and housing conditions of the students. In the current five-year period 1,500,000,000 roubles will be additionally appropriated by the state for higher stipends and to increase the number of students receiving them. Besides the construction will be effected of a great number of new hostels and sports facilities, and to improve considerable the medical services and increase resort accommodations for the students.

    By 1975 one out of every ten Soviet citizens will have a college or university diploma.

    The Soviet students, the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party, Leonid Brezhnev, said in conclusion, are an advanced force of the youth of the world. The Soviet students jointly with their counterparts in other countries are activity fighting against imperialism, for social justice and a better future for all peoples.
