  • Description

Astronaut Frank Borman believes a collective blindness to inherent danger of a spaceship fire caused the deaths of three fellow spacemen Jan. 27 at Cape Kennedy.

No one--including officials of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of North American Aviation Inc.--recognised the possibility of a fire, Borman said. North American is prime contractor for the Apollo spaceship.

Borman, the only astronaut on the eight-member review board that investigated the fire, testified last night at a House subcommittee hearing on the tragedy.
