    KING OLAV, OF NORWAY, TOOK THE SALUTE IN OSLO AT NORWAY'S ANNUAL FESTIVAL COMMEMORATING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INDEPENDENT NORWEGIAN CONSTITUTION ON 17 MAY 1814, PREVIOUSLY NORWAY HAD BEEN LINKED WITH OTHER SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES.

    THIS YEAR, AS ALWAYS, A VAST NUMBER OF SCHOOL CHILDREN, MORE THAN 33,000, TOOK PART ADDING COLOUR TO THE PROCEEDINGS.BANDS, TOO, FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, FEATURED IN THE PARADE, WHICH LASTED FOR FOUR HOURS.BECAUSE OF THE PARTICULARLY HIGH SPIRITS AMONG THE NORWEGIANS ON THIS FESTIVAL DAY, THE SALE OF ALL FORMS OF LIQUOR WAS BANNED.THE WEATHER, TOO, HELPED TO DAMPEN EXCESSIVE HIGH SPIRITS.
