Women's Lib and its ideals seems to have crept into the Pakistani way of life. On Sunday (28 October), hundreds of women abandoned their traditional veils to pray at the Moghul Badshahi Mosque in Lahore. They were celebrating the end of Ramadan: thirty days of fasting from dawn until dusk.
In a country where many where many women do not venture from their homes for long periods, the gesture was significant. The women disregarded their usual custom -- which has a history centuries old -- of veiling themselves from head to foot. Ironically, the departure from ancient custom took place in mosque crammed with historical significance. The Moghul Mosque is 300 years old , and said to be the biggest in the world.
