  • Description

An extensive training course in ambush techniques and patrolling procedures is being conducted by the 25th Infantry Division at its base camp at Cu Chi, South Vietnam.

Dubbed "To Kill a Tiger, Learn the Ways of a Tiger," the 50-hour training course is designed to teach the soldiers of the division new methods in hit and run war-fare tactics, and increase their effectiveness in combat.

Units of platoon size are pulled back from combat areas to attend the academy. First, they are given classroom instruction, then are required to go through practical exercises where different ambush techniques are used.

For the most part, the instruction is centred around the different possible contacts with the Viet Cong, including enemy ambush, sniper attack, chance contact and encounter. Throughout the practical exercises, the students are closely observed by instructors who critique the men following each situation.

After attending the ambush academy, soldiers of the 25th Infantry Division are better equipped to stay alive and be more effective in battle against the Viet Cong. He has "Learned the Ways of a Tiger."
