M. Ahmed Taleb, Algeria's Minister of Culture and Information, met with Mauritanian President Moktar Ould Daddah last week (29 December) while on a four-day visit to the African nation. During the day he also met with Abdoul Aziz, a member of the National political Bureau.
During his four-day visit, which began on 27 December, M. Taleb met with the Mauritanian Minister of Culture and M. Mouknass, the Vice-President. He also visited other towns in Mauritania, including two oases in the north of the country that played an important role in the penetration of Islam and Arab civilisation in Mauritania.
SYNOPSIS: Last week, Mauritania's President Moktar Ould Daddah welcomed the Algerian Minister of Culture and Information to his office in Nouakchott The Minister, M. Ahmed Taleb, was on a four-day visit to the African country. M. Taleb was accompanied on the visit by a ten-member delegation. Earlier, he'd met his Mauritanian counterpart, M. Ould Sidi at whose invitation he was making the visit.
The day before his meeting with the President, M. Taleb and his party accompanied the Mauritanian Culture Minister on a one-day visit to the northern towns of Chingitti and D'atar. The two towns are built around oases that historically played an important role in the penetration of Islam and Arab civilisation in Mauritania. After his meeting with the President, M. Taleb spoke with M. Abdoul Aziz, a member of the National Political Bureau.
In addition to his meeting with M. Aziz, M. Taleb's delegation met with Mauritanian representatives for a working conference on problems of mutual interest. On his last day in Mauritania, M. Taleb met the Foreign Minister, M. Hamdi Ould Mouknass. Part of the visit was taken up by a cultural evening in which dancing and music were displayed for the Algerian delegation. (PAUSE ONE SECOND). M. Taleb said the visit was another example of the friendly and brotherly relations that existed between the two countries.
