    A HIGH MASS WAS SAID IN ACCRA'S HOLY SPIRIT CATHEDRAL, LAST WEEK AS PART OF THE CELEBRATIONS MARKING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN GHANA'S CAPITAL CITY.

    THE MASS, CONDUCTED BY BISHOP PETER DERY, OF THE WA DIOCESE, WAS SAID IN DAGARTI, A NORTH GHANA DIALECT, TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF DAGARTI MUSIC AND SINGING.

    IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IN ACCRA THAT A MASS HAS BEEN CELEBRATED IN A LOCAL DIALECT AND DURING THURSDAY'S (20 JUNE) SERVICE, WHICH BEGAN WITH A PROCESSION TO THE CATHEDRAL, THE XYLOPHONE WAS PLAYED INSTEAD OF THE TRADITIONAL CHURCH ORGAN.

    IN HIS SERMON BISHOP DERY CALLED ON ALL CHRISTIANS TO LEAD EXEMPLARY LIVES AS WORTHY FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST. HE PRAYED FOR ALL CHRISTIANS, WORLD PEACE AND THE PROSPERITY OF GHANA.

    THE LESSONS WERE READ BY THE REVEREND FATHER GREGORY ALSO OF THE WA DIOCESE.

    AFTER THE MASS THE CONGREGATION WATCHED A DISPLAY OF DAGARTI DRUMMING AND DANCING.
