Background: In his speech from the Throne at the Nov 1 opening of the Jordanian Parliament in Amman, King Hussein attacked the Communist countries, saying they were out to destroy the United Nations. King Hussein said the United Nations was the only organisation that would keep world peace and protect the smaller states.
Arriving at Parliament, the young King inspected a Guard of Honour before greeting the heads of his armed forces. Entering Parliament he received a prolonged round of applause from the members.
King Hussein said Jordan would support the struggle of the Algerian rebels against the French. Again the United Arab Republic came under fire for conspiracies and campaigns against Jordan.
Listening to the speech was Jordan's new Premier Bahjat Talhouni, who came to power after a bomb explosion at the Foreign Ministry killed the Prime Minister and eleven other Jordanians.
