MADAME VUI HAD RETIRED FROM POLITICAL LIFE SEVERAL YEARS AGO, BUT SHE SAYS THAT SHE IS GOING TO PARIS BECAUSE SHE BELIEVES THAT IT IS HER DUTY TO HELP STOP THE FIGHTING. MADAME VUI RECEIVED THE HO CHI MINH MEDAL IN THE 1940 TIES FOR HER WORK IN THE YOUTH MOVEMENT. MADAME BINH, THE LEADER OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT DELEGATION AT THE TALKS, WAS A MEMBER OF THE SAME MOVEMENT.

    AN INTERVIEWER ASKED HER WHY SHE WAS GOING TO THE PARIS PEACE TALKS, MRS VUI REPLIED IN VIETNAMESE AND AN INTERPRETER TRANSLATED.

    MADAME IS ABOUT 40 YEARS OLD. SHE WAS BORN IN THE MEKONG DELTA, THE EIGHT CHILD OF A LARGE FAMILY. SHE IS MARRIED TO A BANK OFFICIAL AND HAS THREE SONS AND A DAUGHTER.
