The Victoria Falls. The natives call it the smoke that thunders. The first white man here was a missionary; David Livinstone. his aim...to spread the were of God. After him came the colonisers who exploited the land and the natives. And today, the war in Rhodesia is aimed at the colonisers with the white mission aries caught in the middle.

Another Missionary funeral...this time two German Jesuits were lined up in front of their mission station by Rhodesian guerrillas and shot in the head.
Just a few yards away, the graves of seven other Jesuits, killed by guerrillas last year. Since then, the funerals of white missionary in Rhodesia have become all too common. In one massacre alone, 13 white missionaries and family died.
Unable and unwilling to defend themselves, the missionaries were beaten to death with axes and knives. Son after, the Elim mission was closed.
Jim Dearmore is an independent Baptist from Texas. He works in the Cashel Valley. It's one of Rhodesia's most dangerous places.
Reverend Dearmore and his wife Georgian are determined to stay and stay alive. So they carry pistols and machine guns. That way they can still work in the bush.
Revere?? Dearmore says that for every verse in the Bible that is the basis for pacifism of most missionaries, he can shot ten verses justifying self-defense.
"I think that any missionary work that's done in Rhodesia will have to be done by armed missionaries. Otherwise, most of them will be killed or have to leave."
Reverend Dearmore's way enables him to continue his work in an area where he for too no white neighbours. They've all either been killed adducted by guerrilla or they've left. And, he feels that the only ways for him to continue his mission work is by being armed.
