Background: The third test match between India and MCC begins here in the Eden Gardens, to-day with a crowd of about One hundred thousand witnessing the game. The Indian side started the batting being advantageous for the Batsmen after winning the toss but unfortunately were not able to collect up good amount of runs as expected although the lively strokes that were often coming out of Jaishima and Kundaram did show promise toward the beginning of the game. The english bowlers were quite very successful in their attack and commendable fielding and within about two hours time after lunch they took seven valuable wickets for 169 runs. The game at this stage looked as if the Indian Innings will be over shortly after the team. But the tail enders of the Indian side, Nadkarni and Chandrasekhar took good stand with their occasional effective strokes in the tenth wicket partnership and carried their bat till the end of the day at 230 with Nadkarni at 33 and Chandrasekhar at 15.
