Calcutta--the Commonwealth's second largest city is today perhaps the world's most crowded city. Its streets already seems to burst at seams! They are in a state of permanent traffic jam during the day. And traffic of all sorts..rickshaws pulled by men, centre of the street occupied by trams moving at snails speed, heavy trucks, overloaded passenger buses and all. In the midst of all this are the street vendors doing brisk business offering 'oriental' bargains to the shoppers. Everything sells...saris in six yard length, ready to wear trousers and other consumer articles. And for energy nature's own energy from sugar cane juice..crushed fresh in your presence. On the footpaths the vendors sell fruit from all parts of India. The traffic constable seems lost in the middle of the road as traffic somehow finds its way to move. And vendors protect themselves from the Eastern sun with umbrellas. And to quench the thirst for busy walkers the green coconut milk is handy and you get for eight NP.
