  • Description

About 65 young girls, Kenyan and European, all aged between 13 and 15 walked the 12 miles (19 Kilometres) from Nairobi to Limuru of Saturday (July 11) in order to raise money to help children who cannot pay their school fees and also to help victims of the Peruvian earthquake.

The students were all from Form 3 of Loreto Convent, Msongari. All of them were sponsored for the walk, many earning as much as GBP4 (10 dollars) for every mile they covered.

The walk started at 7.30 in the morning from the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, heading north for Limuru. All of the girls who started the walk finished in four hours, some of them running most of the way to be first at the finishing line.

It is estimated that the girls raised about GBP1,500 sterling (about 3,600 dollars) for their charities.

The headmistress of the girls' convent, Sister Pauline, also walked all of the way.
