  • Description

Summer hair styles for 1960 displayed by Gabriel Garland in Paris, France, May 9, may be the "latest thing", but they take their inspiration from the romantic past. Coiffeurs are based on those of three eras - Directory (the 1790s), Restoration, (1815-1848), and Second Empire (1850-1870). Overall tendency is for the young woman to keep the sophisticated piled-up style, while "junior miss" has long soft curls.

The model Lucky shows a Second Empire style "Arabesque", and then Angels demonstrates "Pilibi". Carolle takes spectators back to the Directory with "Chignon Brioche", and Beatrice keeps them in the same period with wind-swept "Surboum". Genevieve shows something suited to the very young - "Le bonheur de Sophie", and finally Joyce calls to mind the girls of painter Toulouse Lautrec with "Casque d'or."
