A boon for penurious art-lovers in Copenhagen's newly-created "Art Library". In just the same way as borrowing a book, Danes are able to choose pictures by their favourite Scandinavian artist, pay a fee - three shillings per painting - and take them away for a month.
Young artists are able to send their work along to the library to be included on the "lending-list". If the borrower becomes interested in buying a painting he is permitted to buy direct from the artist.
The art library also sends pictures out on buses and cars to large factories, schools and shops. Many shops become members of the library to use the paintings for imaginative window displays. The mobile library will call to change them every month.
Following a suggestion by Scandinavian countries, UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - are soon to discuss the possibility of opening such art libraries in many countries.
