The new president of the National Assembly in the People's Republic of the Congo, M.?
The new president of the National Assembly in the People's Republic of the Congo, M. Miakassissa Dieudonne, called for national unity and solidarity against imperialism in his inaugural address on Saturday (21 July).
As head of the Assembly's five-man bureau, M. Dieudonne ranks second only to the President of the Republic in the country's political hierarchy. M. Dieudonne is a former trade union leader and in his address also challenged the new Assembly to defend the needs of the People.
The Assembly was officially opened on Friday (20 July) by the President of the Republic, M. Marian Ngouabi. On that occasion, President Ngouabi also called for an efficient Assembly which would be a spokesman for the people. He repeated that call on Saturday -- and echoed M. Dieudonne's emphasis on unity.
The assembly is now in recess until October.
