    Egyptian Information Minister, Ahmed Magd, broke his "gulf tour" schedule on Saturday (10 May) to hold a press conference in Beirut, Lebanon.

    Mr. Magd is on a whirlwind tour of Arab states to explain Egyptian Government policies. He arrived in the Lebanon on Friday (9 May) for a three day visit and had meetings with several Lebanese Minister, including his counterpart, Mahmoud Ammar.

    In his press conference, Mr. Magd commented on the strained relations between Egypt and Libya, his country's relations with the United States and the Soviet Union.

    He also commented on speculation in Lebanon that the Soviet-Union had agreed to write-off Egypt's debts up to 1972, and to accept re-payment of the rest by instalment. He said he hoped the speculation was proved right.
