Secretary-general of the U.N., Mr. Kurt Waldheim arrived in Rome today for a two-day official visit. Arriving at Fieumieino, Rome's general airport, with his wife, he was greeted by Italy's foreign minister Arnaldo Forlani.
While in Italy, Waldheim will meet President Leone at the Quirinale Palace, and will be hosted at an official dinner by Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti at Villa Madama.
Waldheim has been invited by the Italian government to come to Italy as he makes a round-Europe swing of nations. He in fact will arrive to Rome from Paris and is scheduled to go on to Vienna.
The official reason for the Waldheim visit were not disclosed by Italy's foreign ministry, however, political observers here speculate that he is coming to get Italy's reaction to the European council declaration that the palestinians have a right to a homeland.
