Background: A Lebanese Parliamentary delegation, headed by high-ranking ministers, crossed the border into Syria, Nov. 24 to offer their congratulations to Field Marshal Hakim Amer, recently appointed Governor of the Syrian region of the United Arab Republic.

Led by the Minister of Justice, F. Takla; Minister of the interior, A. Bazzi; head of the Pemier's Cabinet, N. Akkari; and General Lahoud, head of the President's military cabinet, they were welcomed on the border by a Syrian delegation, headed by Colonel Serrat, Minister of the Interior; Justice Minister, N. Kassem; and Economics Minister, K. Kallas. A guard of honour formed as the two delegations met.

On arrival at Damascus, the visitors went to the Presidential Palace to see Field Marshal Amer. After presenting their congratulations, they returned to Beirut.

field Marshal Amer recently completed a round-Syrian tour to meet local government leaders, and reassure businessmen of his own gradualist approach to economic union with Egypt - a policy widely welcomed in Lebanon's business circles.
