  • Description

Reports from Kabul that the Afghanistan rulers are helping dissident Pakistan tribesmen on the North West Frontier sparked a demonstration by students in Islamabad on Monday (February 17).

Several hundred Pakistan students chanting anti-Afghanistan slogans marched on that country's Embassy and burned an effigy of the ruler General Sardar Daud.

The demonstration followed a report on Radio Kabul monitored in Pakistan which said Afghanistan had the right to intervene in the fight between the dissenting tribes of the North West Frontier and the Government forces. The radio said Afghanistan had been supporting the Pakhtun and Baluchi tribesmen and would continue to do so.

The broadcast coincided with increasing tension along the long-disputed North West Frontier. A senior Provincial Minister was assassinated earlier this month in the region. The province has been put under Federal rule.
