Background: Foreign Ministers of 'Little Europe' - the six common market countries had their first meeting since December, 58, in the Quai d' Orsay, Jan 14, under the chairmanship of M. Couve de Murville French Foreign Minister.
They discussed the UK Proposals for non-discriminatory treatment between members and non-members of the Common Market. Result was a proposal to the O.E.E.C. Permanent Council for practical negotiations on bilateral and multilateral basis to avoid danger of serious distortions of trade. Observers interpreted this statement as a suggestion to France and Britain to work out reciprocal enlargements of their more important small quotas.
If this is agreed upon there will be Anglo-French barter deals in quotas, with possibilities of greater trade between the two countries.
