Background: President Giovanni Gronchi of Italy continues his efforts to form a new Italian Government, after Amintore Fanfani resigned as Premier on Jan 26 after seven months in office. On Jan 28 Visnews filmed Signor Gronchi during his consultations with various possible successors to Signor Fanfani, among whom Sr. Ferruccio Parri and Giuseppe Pella, both former presidents.

Other politicians with whom Signor Gronchi had consultations were Giuseppe Saragat and Umberto Terracini, both former Presidents of the Italian Assembly.

The search for the 20th Italian Premier since Mussolini's overthrow 16 years ago promises to be a difficult one. It is considered certain that the new Premier will be another member of the Christian Democrat party and that he will be a supports of continued close ties with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Observers in Rome believe that the most likely choice of Premier for such a cabinet is either Sr. Piccioni, a former Foreign Minister, or Sr. Segni, who was Premier in 1957 and Deputy Premier in the Fanfani Cabinet.
