Background: Following the recent sacking of all Cypriot women employed by the NAAFI, the Navy, Army, Air Force Institute which supplies food, clothing, and other necessities to soldiers and their families, the wives of the soldiers have volunteered to run the NAAFI shops themselves until replacements can be brought out from England.

Visnews film here shows the women who have 'jumped to the other side of the counter' to help themselves and their depandants.

Meanwhile a headlined recruiting campaign in England for girls for 'dangerous work' - danger pay is GBP3 a week - has brought some 15,000 volunteers to the NAAFI headquarter building in London. Among them the Austrian born cook of Sir Winston Churchill who wishes to express her immense gratitude to the country which has sheltered her.
