The South Vietnamese Prime Minister, Mr. Tran Thien Khiem, arrived in Taipei yesterday (Tuesday) on a four-day official visit to Taiwan.
At the airport, the party of welcome was led by Taiwan's Vice-President and Premier, Mr. C.K. Yen, and included several government ministers.
Mr. Khiem, is no stranger to Taiwan. He was South Vietnam's Ambassador there from 1965 to 1968. He arrived from Tokyo after an official visit to Japan and South Korea before that.
A 19-gun salute was fired as Mr. Khiem inspected a battalion-strong honour guard.
Mr. Khiem, who was accompanied by his wife and several Saigon ministers, said he hoped his visit would strengthen bonds between South Vietnam and Taiwan.
