  • Description

The 433 rd troop carrier wing at Kelly Field in Texas becomes the first air force reserve flying unit to receive the air force outstanding unit award for developing and testing the "Alama Sling Shot" system, a new heavy air delivery method.

The new system reduces extraction time by one-fourth, and provides precise timing of the computed release point and reduces ground error.

Heavy webbing fastened by anchor rings restrains the lead in the plane.

the cable fastened to a pulley on each side moves the load rearward. A monorail system, presently in the C-119, releases the restraining webbing and extracts the load. The entire load drops within 75 feet of the target.

The new system also reduces load and ring time and reduces possibility of personnel and equipment error.
