    A meeting of delegates from eleven African nations, looking into the problems of drought in their area, concluded at Nianing near the Senegalese capital, Dakar, on Thursday (13 February).

    The conference, which was held under the auspices of UNESCO (United Nations Scientific Education and Scientific Cooperation Organisation) began on February 3, and included representatives of the host nation, Senegal, as well as Mali, Chad, Cameroun, Upper Volta, Sudan, Niger, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Nigeria, and Gambia.

    The main topic was the recent, disastrous drought in the Sahel region. Delegates discussed the latest research into the problem.

    They also visited various land improvement projects in Senegal.

    The concluding full session of the conference at the Club Adiana was opened by M. Cisse Ben Mady, Senegal's Delegate General for human advancement. He thanked the conference members for their work during the ten day conference.
