  • Description

Twenty four Americans were killed and 57 wounded in the first two weeks of the operation in support of South Vietnamese troops in Laos. As the South Vietnamese troops thrust toward the Communist supply route known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the Communists retaliated with scattered attacks on both sides of the border. Most of the American casualties occurred in these retaliatory raids.

The casualties are flown out hospital in Da Nang, Camran Bay and Saigon.

The United States command says there are 9,000 Americans just south of the demilitarized zone in the north of South Vietnam. And so far, they say, casualties have been very light.
