Background: Explosion of the French atomic bomb at Reggan in the Sahara desert, Feb 13, continues to rouse protests in many countries. In West Germany, demonstrations with placards lodged a protest petition at the French Embassy in Bad Godesberg, Mar 15.

To avert incidents endangering Franco-German relations, police inspected placards before the protest march began - ordered one, showing a skull, to be removed. The demonstrators belonged to the IDK, an anti-war organisation.

Police closely checked all visitors approaching the Embassy and ringed it with a security cordon.

Three officials of the IDK - Pastor von Wandersleb, Dr. Liedl, and Dr. Siegmund Schmitt - went through the cordon to hand the petition in on the Embassy steps but left without being able to see the French ambassador.
