    THE TWO-WEEK REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED NATIONS FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL ORGANISATION (F.A.O.) ENDED IN THE IVORY COAST CAPITAL ON SATURDAY. 33 AFRICAN STATES WERE REPRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE, AND THERE WERE OBSERVERS FROM FRANCE, THE UNITED STATES AND GREAT BRITAIN.

    IT WAS THE F.A.O.'S FOURTH REGIONAL CONFERENCE FOR AFRICA AND ALL ASPECTS OF THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION WERE DISCUSSED. THE CHIEF RECOMMENDATIONS TO COME FROM THE CONFERENCE CONCERNED INTERNATIONAL MARKETING FOR AFRICAN PRODUCTS AND IMPROVED MARKETING GENERALLY; THE FINANCING OF AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT; THE ROLE OF AGRICULTURE IN INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA; AND THE QUESTION OF ADEQUATE AFRICAN REPRESENTATION IN THE F.A.O. HEADQUARTERS ION ROME.

    THE CONFERENCE OPENED WITH A PLEA FOR BETTER REPRESENTATION IN ROME. AT PRESENT ONLY TWO OUT OF THIRTY AFRICAN OFFICIALS IN THE F.A.O. COME FROM FRENCH-SPEAKING AFRICAN COUNTRIES, ACCORDING TO THESE COUNTRIES. THE FRENCH-SPEAKING DELEGATIONS WISH TO INCREASE THEIR REPRESENTATION ON THE MAIN BOARD IN ROME, THE REGIONAL BOARD IN ACCRA, AND THE SUB-REGIONAL BOARD IN NAIROBI.

    CLOSING THE CONFERENCE, THE CAMEROON DELEGATE, M. JEAN KEUTCHA, WHO IS CAMEROON MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE, THANKED THE IVORY COAST GOVERNMENT FOR ALL THE FACILITIES PROVIDED, ADDING THAT THE CONFERENCE HAD ENABLED DELEGATES TO APPRECIATE F.A.O.'s CONTRIBUTION TO AGRICULTURAL IN AFRICA.
