    WITH THEIR RAILWAY AND MOST ROADS CUT OFF BY FLOODS, PEOPLE LIVING IN THE CONGOLESE TOWN OF ALBERTVILLE HAVE BEEN SUFFERING ACUTE FOOD SHORTAGES.THE FIERCE FLOODWATERS HAVE FORCED THEM TO EVACUATE LARGE PARTS OF THE TOWN, AS WHOLE STREETS OF HOUSES HAVE BEEN CLAIMED BY THE FAST-MOVING TORRENTS.

    NORMALLY SUPPLIES OF FOOD COULD HAVE BEEN SENT INTO ALBERTVILLE ITS PORT ON THE SHORES OF LAKE TANGANYIKA.BUT THE PORT, TOO, HAS BEEN DISABLED.LITTLE HAS BEEN SALVAGED FROM THE WRECKAGE, BUT THE PEOPLE MADE HOMELESS STILL SEARCH ON HOPEFULLY.

    ONLY A SMALL STRETCH OF RAILWAY TRACK HAS BEEN LEFT INTACT, WITH FLOODWATER LAPPING AT ITS EDGES.AT A NEARBY SCHOOL, SOLDIERS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IN SAVINGS AS MUCH AS THEY COULD OF THE SCHOOL EQUIPMENT.LOCAL CHURCHES HAVE BEEN GIVING VALUABLE RELIEF AND AID WHILE THE GOVERNMENT TRIES TO GET THROUGH WITH URGENTLY NEEDED SUPPLIES OF FOOD AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENT.

    A TOUR OF THE AREA WAS MADE BY THE PROVINCIAL PRESIDENT, MR.MWAMBA ILUNGA.HE TOLD THE PEOPLE THEY MUST MOVE TO NEW SITES AND START THEIR LIFE ANEW.
