Background: A group of experts form the Lake Chad Basin Commission are meeting int eh capital of Niger, Niamey, this week to discuss ways of making the best use of the lake's water resources.

The Lake Chad Basing Commission has four members -- Cameroun, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. Only Nigeria is not represented at the Niamey meeting. It announced it was unable to send representatives because of last-minute administrative problems.

The findings of the present meeting will be put before the full conference of the Lake Chad Basin Committee which meets in Fort Lamy in June.
