UNITED NATIONS The United Nations is in itself a synthesis of the theme "International Co-operation and Man". The United Nations hall is shaped rather like a delta plane. The roof is round and is supported by pillars. The inside of the roof will be entirely covered with glass. It needs the skill of highly qualified workers to put into place the various parts and elements of this admirable structure. It must be stressed, indeed, that all through the various stages of the construction of the United Nations hall and the other buildings of the World Fair, it is the creative genius of man that will bring this tremendous enterprise to its fulfillment.
MEXICO A particular aspect of the Mexican section will be the use of mosaics, sculptures, marble and other materials coming directly from Mexico.
GERMANY The participation of Germany is one of those which have reached an advanced stage of achievement. The theme of the German participation. "Life and Work in Germany" is already perfectly illustrated by the efficiency of its engineers and workers and by the graceful outline of the eight pavilions which, linked by covered galleries, will constitute the section of the Federal Republic.
PORTUGAL The architecture chosen for the Portuguese section is sober and modern in line, with vast all-glass walls.
IRAN-JAPAN From the beautiful "Belvedere" one gets a sweeping glance of the construction of the Iranian pavilion. On the World Fair Japan is next to Iran. This pavilion will be constructed of wood, paper and bamboo, while modern technique is represented by the overhanging metal roof which is entirely suspended from its central supporting bipod.
ATOMIUM An outstanding feature of the World Fair will be the Atomium which is meant to call attention to the peaceful applications of nuclear energy. This cylinder which at first glance looks as a child's toy weighs in fact 30 tons and has a length of 29 metres. To put it into place requires an utmost precision and skill.
17 similar cylinders in addition to 8 more spheres will altogether make up the Atomium as a giant symbol of our time.
