    THE FORMER ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER, MR. DAVID BEN GURION, YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) PRESENTED THE PRIZE TO THE WINNING SOVIET TEAM AT A DINNER MARKING THE END OF THE CHESS OLYMPICS IN TEL AVIV. THE FORMER ISRAELI LEADER WAS GUEST OF HONOUR AT A DINNER GIVEN BY ISRAEL'S MINISTRY OF SPORT.

    THE PLAYERS AND THEIR HOSTS WERE ABLE TO EXCHANGE GREETINGS INFORMALLY BEFORE THE FUNCTION GOT UNDERWAY. MR. BEN GURION, WHO IS RUSSIAN BY BIRTH, SPOKE TO MEMBERS OF THE EASTERN EUROPEAN TEAMS IN THEIR WON TONGUES AND LATER PRESENTED THE TROPHY TO THE SOVIET UNION, AS WINNERS IN THE OLYMPICS.

    THERE WAS A ROUND OF AFTER DINNER SPEECHES, INCLUDING ONE FROM DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER EBAN WHO SPOKE IN ENGLISH, FRENCH AND SPANISH. THE RESPONSES WERE MADE BY THE CANADIAN TEAM CAPTAIN, MR. PRENTIS, ON BEHALF OF THE INTERNATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION, MIKHAIL BOTVINNIK, THE SOVIET GRAND MASTER, ON BEHALF OF THE PLAYERS.

    TEL AVIV'S MAYOR PRESENTED WEST GERMANY WITH THEIR THIRD PRIZE; MR. EBAN GAVE RUNNERS UP YUGOSLAVIA THEIR TROPHY; WHILE MR. BEN GURION PRESENTED THE VICTORS, SOVIET RUSSIA WITH THEIR PRIZE AS OLYMPIAD WINNERS.
